Preparation

To start off with we were asked to watch and research some clips and links to help us understand a bit about Commedia dell'arte before we started. We were given a few links and here this is what i thought to them.

Fawlty Towers relates to Commedia as its a form of slapstick comedy just like Commedia is. The mian character Basil is constantly failing in a very humorous way. He gets hit and he hits himself in parts of this clip (literal slap stick). The only thing is the clocking with the audience, the actors cant do this as they are on T.V so it makes it harder, so this way your are more gripped to the plot.

The element of stage combat within Commedia links to this. There is comedy in speech whilst the sword fight is going on. There is over confidence and it is physical theater. Also no one gets hurt which is interesting. its just a parady of a historical drama and sword fight.
