Day two
So we started the day the same as the last with a warm up
for more intense physical theater. Today we were taught the Lovers characters. Their
stance is one leg bent and the other straight (like a lunge position). They are
very floaty and innocent characters, they even get to afraid to hold hands.
While improvising a scene I was partnered with James, and
had to devise a poetic love monologue then add the action to the words. For example
‘Your eyes sparkle like stars in the night sky.” “My love for you is endless.” Etc.
We then took it in turns to present the results to the class and the scenes
shown might later be used to develop the final show at the end of the week.
Another character we looked at was Pantaloni. This character
is portray as a pervy old man he has a walk that each time he steps he picks
his foot up really fast and quite high then places it back just before the
planted foot. So he doesn't move particularly fast paced and he can be quite
clumsy. He usually goes after the female Zanni Columbina and she slyly makes
him fall over by placing her foot or broom out in front of him and the comedic
effect is that he usually doesn't see it and falls over it. Or the Columbina
character can make a quick change of direction whilst Pantaloni is following
her and then he takes a while to get back on track to start following her
again. He also can’t get back up after falling, unless he gets helped or has
some sort of bribe thus showing what sort of person his character is. Now that
we know a bit about Pantaloni we had to devise another scene this time using
the characters Pantaloni and female Zanni, Columbina who is more knowledgeable
than a normal Zanni.
I was partnered with Miguel who played Pantaloni. Our performance
consisted of Pantaloni taking a look at hie precious wine collection, however,
Columbina can’t help but clean and he gets frustrated with her. He says some insulting things to her, so she
slyly trips him over.
